Many months ago I wrote my opinion about the London 2012 logo, so I’m not going to rehash that here. What I do want to point out, is a what I heard on an episode of Mock the Week recently. That the logo looks surprisingly like Lisa Simpson performing felacio on a headless man. Now, unfortunately, that’s all I see…

A twittersome bunch

Look similar?
And, the NHS60 has brand guidelines. How quaint. Well, I suppose as long as no one copies /them/. And there are subtle differences, so I guess it’s okay (read as: dripping with sarcasm – and if you didn’t catch that, then you might miss read a lot of my posts!)
Being this designer, to me, would be slightly embarrassing. I dunno. I know twitter isn’t huge amongst the non-computer obsessed, but still, those are the ones who judge designers most often. I would think a designer should know better.
I’m always waiting for someone to show me, when something is done so similar to something else, that it’s in cahoots, in a good way, and I just missed it.
Maybe the stop-smoking ad is sponsored by Twitter!
Apple Being Apple

Blake E. Marquis, Designer of GreenNYC logo
A company in New York, GreenNYC, has put in a trademark application for their newly designed logo above. Apple has thus since, filed an opposition to said application.
Firstly, will apple take it further if they’re denied, let’s hope not. Secondly, are they really similar enough to warrant Apple Inc. caring so much? The GreenNYC logo is, well, green, has lots of negative space, has a stem and the leaf is thinner and goes in the opposite direction. Then there is the fact that the two companies offer completely different ‘products’.

London 2012 Logo: Retro Ugly Is In

The London 2012 logo, well, it’s just that. For 2012. I have a gut feeling that by 2012 the logo will seem less “ugly” and more “hip”. This is a definite way to keep a logo from becoming dated. Preempt the culture curve and design for the future. If Wolff Olins designed a logo for ‘today’, it would most likely be dated by the time the Olympics rolled around.
The concept is quite innovative as well. Using the image to mask other various images and patterns. Each venue will have its own theme with in the shape of the logo, and also sponsors will have their own colour pallets to match their own identities.
They decided to reveal the first of what they call the “freefill” logos early to help convince the public of the growth, and show how it will continue to evolve over the years. I say well done because once I saw the Lloyd’s TSB sponsorship logo, I liked it more already.

If you haven’t seen this yet, it’s a must try, Goglogo Just type in whatever suits your fancy and it’ll come out looking like the Google Logo – it’s quite fun. Not as good as the real Google search engine though, so if you make it your home page, you still end up jumping over to use regular ol‘ Google anyways.
Also, I came across this new Brighton Pebble Typeface here and you can go to the original source and try to spell out your name, business, hell, anything you can spell! Have fun!
